Alcatel-Lucent stays put at Telecom NZ

Alcatel-Lucent continues to support Juniper Networks equipment at Telecom NZ despite a failed High Court injunction late last year.

A contract between Alcatel-Lucent and Juniper Networks allowing the former to continue as a Juniper reseller in New Zealand was due to expire at the end of December 2009. Lucent was a Juniper reseller before being acquired by Alcatel. However, Alcatel-Lucent argued in court the 2009 expiry date was a mistake and it should have been 2011. The company was not granted an injunction. Anticipating problems, Telecom had previously issued an RFP seeking an alternative partner, but Alcatel-Lucent and Juniper have agreed to extend the existing reseller contract.

Neither company could be contacted to discuss the matter as CommsDay went to press.
